Kick off your summer festivities with the Kingston Makers Festival

The Makers Festival returns to the Kingston Arts Centre and City Hall, on Sunday 2 December, 2–7pm.

This year's event will be bigger and braver than previous years, showcasing over 80 high-quality artisan stalls, just in time for your Christmas shopping.

The festival will also feature gourmet food trucks including White Guy Cooks Thai and Cornutopia, live music, roaming performers, gallery exhibitions, artists’ talks and demonstrations, as well as creative workshops. Highlights include:  

TRASH PUPPETS LIVE PERFORMANCE Created by Ben Anderson, Jhess Knight, Amy Moule and Jacob WiIliams, Escape from Trash Mountain features 17 handmade puppets which outwit hideous trash monsters to save the planet. Stay on or come along afterwards to Trash Puppets free workshop and create your own puppet out of recyclable materials. BALUK ARTS BUSH CREATURES WORKSHOP Work with local Aboriginal artists to create your own bush sculpture made from natural and contemporary fibres. GURU DUDO SILENT DISCO Guru Dudo takes the Silent Disco phenomenon to a whole new level with his Silent Disco Walking Tours. Silent Disco feature hilarious commentary, uplifting tunes from the 70s, 80s and 90s, crazy improv and interpretive dance. Everyone is welcome to join in to bust a move! LIVE MUSIC This year’s Makers Festival will be headlined by six-piece soul/funk band Jakal. The Festival will also feature Gypsy band Vardos and Voice 2017 finalist, Sarah Stone, who will perform alongside Joey in an acoustic duo not to be missed from 5-7pm. OPTIKA KINGSTON PHOTOGRAPHIC AWARDS AND EXHIBITION (2 Dec -12 JAN)

The winners of the OptiKA Awards for Best Photograph, Portrait and Video, will be announced at 5pm in G1 and G2 galleries at the Kingston Arts Centre. Up to $4,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs.
