Wollongong City Council’s summer Moonlight Movies season kicks off on Saturday 3 November with an outdoor screening of the Oscar award-nominated film, Moana (PG) on Thirroul Beach Reserve.
The blockbuster Disney film marks the start of an exciting season of Moonlight Movies that includes Earlyman (PG), Trolls (PG) and the timeless classic The Neverending Story (PG).
Wollongong City Acting Lord Mayor Councillor David Brown said that the free Moonlight Movies are always a great night out for the whole family.
“Moonlight Movies have been running for the past eight years and are a great community event,” he said.
“This season, we’re hosting six free movie screenings from between November 2018 and April 2019 at locations between Thirroul and Port Kembla.
“You can come to one, or you can come to all – everyone is welcome. These events have a great atmosphere and it’s fun watching a movie under the stars with family and friends.”
The screening of Moana on Thirroul Beach Reserve is presented in partnership with Horizon Credit Union.
The much-loved family film follows Moana, a strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian village, who travels across the seas to reunite a goddess with her ‘heart’. As part of her journey, she meets Maui, a legendary trickster, who is needed to help her complete her voyage. The animated film features the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Jemaine Clement, and it’s catchy soundtrack features songs including How Far I’ll Go, You’re Welcome and Shiny.
Gates open for Moana at 6pm and the film will screen at sunset (7.30pm). Food and drink will be available to purchase at all Moonlight Movie events.
Hearing loops and/or headphones are also available for people who need them, and can be booked via the Events team on (02) 4227 7111.
