The City of Swan Council has voted to support a brand new Swan Valley hop-on hop-off bus service after committing $50,000 toward the project at its Council Meeting on October 24.
The Swan Valley Explorer will loop around the Swan Valley, making regular stops at tourist hotspots around the region and will also provide a direct service to Caversham Wildlife Park.
City of Swan Deputy Mayor Kevin Bailey said the new service will transform the way international, interstate and local visitors and locals travel around the Swan Valley.
“We are very excited to see this new service boost accessibility and complement the award winning businesses operating throughout the Swan Valley,” he said.
“We are pleased to contribute $50,000 to this fantastic venture and thank Adams Perth for their commitment toward our local tourism sector.”
Swan Valley/Gidgegannup Ward Councillor Charlie Zannino said the introduction of this new service is in line with the City’s Tourism Development Strategy 2015-20.
“The Tourism Development Strategy outlines the actions the City, industry and partners need to take to ensure the Swan Valley reaches its best potential,” he said.
“The aim of the strategy is to attract an additional 120,000 visitors by 2020 with an extra spend of $132.4 million in visitor spend.
“A hop-on hop-off bus service was identified in this strategy as something that could improve the overall accessibility of products and amenity of the Swan Valley.
“Additionally, a seven day service is anticipated to generate valuable mid-week visitation which has been identified as a high priority in the strategy.
“This initiative aligns so closely to our tourism planning for the region, which is why we are so proud to support it.”
