Next year is set to be an exciting one for beach goers with three Northern Beaches surf clubs set for serious overhauls.
Thanks to a funding boost from the state government, both Mona Vale and Long Reef surf clubs will see work commence on brand new buildings and facilities, and we’ll kick off consultation for a new club at Manly. After overwhelming support for the exhibited plans for the Mona Vale surf club, a DA has been submitted with an expectation that we’ll be shovel ready by mid-year. This has been a great collaboration with the club, community and working group to get this far so quickly. You can check out the Mona Vale concept plans and the community engagement report.
Concept Plans for Long Reef club and beach facilities are still on public exhibition and Council encourages community input!
The brief was to balance the needs of the club and the community and deliver a modern, functional facility that is sympathetic to the local environment. Again, it’s been fantastic to have the local Club and a reference group to work alongside Council and the designers to have a concept to be proud off. Do you think it meets the brief? Give us your feedback. And at the meeting in October, Council committed to kick off the planning for a new surf club in Manly. There was strong agreement that the current building is tired and run down and not meeting the increasing demands of the growing club, locals and visitors. Council has the opportunity to take a fresh look at what is possible and we look forward to talking to the community early next year about what can be done to create something truly special in this iconic location.
