Make sure your furry friends are registered

An increased number of dogs have been reported missing after recent storms in the Western Downs.

Western Downs Regional Council has taken a large number of calls about missing or recovered pets.

With thunderstorms forecast into this week, now is the perfect time to make sure your favourite four-legged friend is registered with Council.

Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said making sure dogs were registered was the easiest way to ensure you are reunited with them if they run away.

“Any four-legged friend is an important and special member of the family,” he said.

“While the recent rain has been a relief to many, there have been several dogs who have run away from home because of the storms.

“Now is the perfect opportunity to make sure your pet is registered and microchipped with the correct information with Council.”

If any residents find a lost dog, they are encouraged to contact the Customer Contact Centre.

Cr Smith said the contact centre should be the first port of call for all lost pets.

“Our team will be able to try and locate the rightful home of the dog, if it is registered,” he said.

“If not, our team from the pound will be happy to come and collect the animal and keep it safe, and start the process to reunite them with their families.”
