WDRC employees Katie Harvey and Payden Taylor have established themselves in the workforce after starting out in traineeships at Council.

There is just one week left to get applications in for the Western Downs Regional Council traineeships and apprenticeships.

As part of the Career Development Program, the initiative will equip our region’s future generations with job-ready skills and qualifications.

Twenty new traineeship and apprenticeship opportunities are available across the region, with applications closing on Friday, 19 October.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said successful applicants would receive an enjoyable and hands-on experience.

“A traineeship or an apprenticeship is a great way to get your foot in the door into full time work,” he said. ”

The Western Downs has great diversity in its workforce and at Council we try to reflect that with a wide range of opportunities across multiple careers.”

Council employee Katie Harvey applied for a business traineeship with Western Downs Regional Council in 2016.

Miss Harvey said her experience prepared her for the workforce.

“I would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking of applying for a traineeship to do so as it is a really great opportunity,” she said.

“I would especially encourage school leavers as it would be a great first experience in the workforce outside of school and it would set you up for your future.”
