Families flock to Council Movie Nights

Families from across the Western Downs are looking forward to the next community movie night, hosted by Western Downs Regional Council.

Popular G-rated hit Ferdinand was enjoyed by nearly a thousand people in communities across the Western Downs over the last few weeks.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said the initiative was a roaring success, and could lead to more movie nights in the future.

“Council was thrilled to see so many families from all of our towns embrace the Western Downs regional movie nights,” she said.

“Almost one thousand people across eight towns came out in all weather conditions, and it was amazing to hear some of our small communities including Jandowae and Tara had more than 120 and 150 attendees respectively.

“There is nothing better than being able to spend time with loved ones.

“These events require strong partnerships with our community groups, who added to the Movie Night success.

“The positive feedback Council received opens the possibility of hosting more of these events.”

Tara resident Phyllis Brown said the Movie Night in Tara was a great success.

Mrs Brown said she was delighted to see a large crowd come together for the event, as well as the Emergency Service Cadets volunteering to run a full canteen.

“Just to see all of the kids out and enjoying themselves was fantastic,” Mrs Brown said.

“The food was great, and I’m already looking forward to the next one.”
