Ms Goward said the NSW Government’s significant $828,000 investment will assist construction and completion of three projects in the council area, to improve the lives of residents and attractiveness of the region to visitors.
A total of $450,000 has been allocated to a lighting upgrade for Walker Park and an additional $200,000 for lighting for the Murrumbateman Recreation Grounds. Both of these projects will see installation of fixed lighting infrastructure to maximize the use and accessibility for evening and winter activities.
Another $178,129 has been allocated to stage two of the resurfacing of Joe O’Connor Park Netball Courts which will outfit the facilities with a new playing surface.
“The Stronger Country Communities fund is a once-in-a-generation investment and I’m excited for the people of the Yass Valley to start seeing these projects pop up all over the place,” Ms Goward said.
Yass Valley Council Mayor Rowena Abbey welcomed the funding boost.
“Thank you to the State Government and especially our local member The Hon. Pru Goward for this funding commitment to three very important sporting facilities within Yass Valley.”
“Sport and physical activity play a very important role in rural communities, ensuring an outlet for wellbeing and health and these facility improvements will be welcomed at a time when rural communities are doing it tough.”
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro said the roll out of the second round projects takes Stronger Country Communities funding to $300 million.
“I congratulate the Yass Valley Council for developing these fantastic projects, and look forward to the improvements that will make the area an even more attractive place to work and raise a family,” Mr Barilaro said.
“The $300 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $1.6 billion Regional Growth Fund that is employing local tradies, putting local suppliers to work and providing the right environment to operate regional businesses,” Mr Barilaro said.
