Mayoral Appeal Fund keeps giving

With approximately $1,026,000 from the Tathra and District Bushfire Mayoral Appeal Fund already allocated through Stages 1 and 2, it is now time to move onto Stage 3 and Stage 4.
Stage 3 is aimed at those who have been most severely impacted by the disaster, specifically owner/occupiers and tenants whose homes were destroyed or declared permanently uninhabitable.
Mayor, Cr Kristy McBain, said that these households are now being contacted to invite them to take up the offer of financial assistance.
“As the chair of the distribution committee, and with limited funds remaining, I’m aware that the money only goes so far but we do very much hope that this financial assistance provides some degree of comfort,” she said.
Although there will be no requirement to complete a formal application for Stage 3, once people receive their letter, they will need to email or telephone the Recovery Support Service in order to accept the Stage 3 allocation before funds can be provided.
“The Stage 4 distribution is for those people who are suffering extreme financial hardship due to the bushfire.
“Stage 4 may involve a tiered payment system but we won’t be able to decide this until applications are received and reviewed,” Cr McBain said.
There will be an application process for this stage and the committee will review and assess the applications in consultation with Recovery Support Service staff.
Those households identified by the Recovery Support Service as suffering severe hardship will receive application forms via email. Application forms will also be available at the Tathra Post Office, Recovery Support Service, Council’s website and Zingel Place office, and through Red Cross representative, Linda Mayo.
