From 1 November, your library card will not only allow you access to books, but it will also allow you to borrow seeds.
In the “Let it Grow” project, library members can borrow a packet of seeds, grow them, harvest them and eat what they have grown.
The idea is then to “return your loan” and bring back any seeds produced through this process.
Gladstone Regional Mayor Matt Burnett said the project will provide the opportunity for the community to learn, create, connect and exchange via a range of means.
“It will empower members of the community to embrace different styles of learning by providing a variety of means for them to do so.,” Cr Burnett said.
“This is a great initiative and one that the whole community can be a part of.”
The “Let it Grow” – HomeMakerSpace project, is designed to complement the MakerSpace and digital literacy programs currently run by the Gladstone Regional Council Library Service.
The program offers many activities that draw upon a broad range of low-tech practical skills from the past and utilize digital literacy training sessions to aid in the sharing and preservation of local knowledge and skills.
Seeds can also be donated to the Calliope library
