Masterplan Review for Stage 2 of Riverfront Redevelopment

Published on 01 November 2018

Sunraysia residents have a chance to help shape the second stage of Council’s Riverfront Redevelopment following the release of the updated masterplan.

Councillors last week gave their endorsement for the revised masterplan to go on public exhibition, allowing the community to provide their thoughts on features, venues or facilities that could be included.

The masterplan for the second stage of the Riverfront Redevelopment focuses on a nine-hectare strip of land running adjacent to the Mildura rail line and Seventh Street, between Madden and Walnut Avenues.

It outlines proposed areas for both commercial and residential development, upgraded events spaces and a new Village Heart, which could incorporate a café and cultural centre among a raft of different uses.

The revised masterplan also highlights enhancements to Jaycee Park, new walkways, a river pier and additional parking.

Councillor for Economic Development and Tourism Simon Clemence encouraged the community to take up the opportunity to shape the next stage of what is already one of Mildura’s most exciting new public spaces.

He said the masterplan aimed to both guide where certain development should occur, as well as stimulate thinking and discussion on what could be possible.

“Stage 1 of the Riverfront Redevelopment has been an amazing success and transformed not just our riverfront but the connection to our central business district,” Cr Clemence said.

“The community played a large role in this success by providing input into the features they thought should be included and this is reflected in what we see now.

“We’re aiming to follow this same successful process as we look to undertake the second stage of the riverfront redevelopment.”

Cr Clemence said major changes in the revised masterplan were based around the completion of several key components initially planned for Stage 2, which have already been completed, including the crib wall and Langtree Avenue connection.

Stage 2 of the Riverfront Redevelopment is part of Council’s Mildura Future Ready suite of projects, which are aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of our community through investment in key infrastructure projects.

The Riverfront Redevelopment Stage 2 Masterplan is now on public exhibition for 28 days, with feedback from the general public, businesses and other groups encouraged. At the end of the public exhibition period, feedback will be compiled ahead of the masterplan going before Council for endorsement early next year.

Council will also hold a public information session on the revised masterplan which the public are also invited to attend and provide feedback:
