Have Your Say on Botanic Garden Strategic Plan

Guiding the management direction of the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden is the aim of a draft strategic plan currently out for community feedback.

The draft North Coast Regional Botanic Garden Strategic Plan 2018-2023 has been developed by an Advisory Committee and focuses on three key strategic principles:

Conservation – protecting and enhancing flora and fauna Education – sharing information and expertise Community Enrichment – providing enjoyment for the community and visitors

“After community consultation the draft Strategic Plan will be presented to Council together with submissions received and will form an interim measure for guidance of the Botanic Garden while a new Plan of Management is developed,” said Coffs Harbour City Council’s Manager – Holiday Parks and Reserves Jason Bailey.

“Due to changes in the Crown Land Management Act 2016 the State Government now requires Council to prepare new Local Government Act Plans of Management for all Crown reserves, including the North Coast Regional Botanic Garden. The timing of this new requirement is not ideal in relation to the draft Strategic Plan for the Botanic Garden. However, the current draft plan will provide valuable input into the development of the Plan of Management.”

The Strategic Plan will go on exhibition for public comment until November 28, 2018 and can be viewed at haveyoursay.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/BotanicGarden, Council’s Customer Service Centre and local libraries.
