Want to be part of some of Wollongong’s biggest events? We’re calling for volunteers to lend a hand to help deliver our City’s Australia Day and New Year’s Eve celebrations.

These celebrations are some of Wollongong’s most loved community events with thousands of people coming together to celebrate at Wollongong Harbour. There’s a whole lot of work that happens behind the scenes to make sure these events run smoothly and this includes the generous support of our volunteers.

“I’d like to encourage people to consider becoming an event volunteer,” Acting Lord Mayor Councillor David Brown said. “Not only is volunteering a great way to give back to the community but you also get to see how these big events come to life through the hard work of the teams on the ground.”

“If volunteering is something you’re interested in, make sure you jump online and fill out the volunteer application form before the cut-off date.”

Volunteers will take on responsibilities such as set-up and pack down, distributing event information, assisting with stage, performers and the accessible viewing area and site decoration.

Volunteer applications open for both events on Friday 2 November and can be accessed online here. Both New Year’s Eve and Australia Day volunteer applications close on Friday 7 December 2018.
