The Minister for State Growth, the Hon. Peter Gutwein MP has announced that pursuant to the Cable Car (kunanyi/ Mount Wellington) Facilitation Act 2017, he has issued an Authority to Enter Land over Council land adjacent to McRobies Gully landfill site.

Q. Have any other Authorities to Enter Land been issued by the Minister?

A. No, it is understood that the Minister will soon issue an Authority for land within the Wellington Park area. If the Council receives a copy of the Authority, it will be made available here.

Q. What is the Authority to Enter Council land about?

A. The Authority authorises the Mount Wellington Cableway Company and nominated contractors to enter Council land to undertake a flora and fauna study and to do specified surveying works.

Q. Does the Authority impact on the Council decision made in August 2018 to not make any of its land available for a cable car development?

A. No, the Authority only relates to undertaking activities in preparation for the Mount Wellington Cableway Company to lodge a development application with the Council as planning authority.

Q. Does the Authority impact on the Council’s role as planning authority?

A. No.  The Cable Car (kunanyi/ Mount Wellington) Facilitation Act 2017 specifies that the Council is the planning authority for any cable car project.
