MEDIA RELEASE 6 November 2018
Registrations are now open for next year’s Bathurst Cycling Classic which will take place 16 - 17 March 2019 and will again form part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series.
The Bathurst Cycling Classic includes a range of cycling events with the feature being the 70km and 110km Blayney 2 Bathurst (B2B). The110km event has been sanctioned by the world governing body of cycling, the Union Cycliste International (UCI) and is one of three qualifying rounds to be held in Australia.
The UCI event is a high-level competition for masters and amateurs but also aims to support the idea of cycling for all. The 2019 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will be held in Poznan, Poland from 22 – 30 September.
Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said the Bathurst Cycling Classic is continuing to grow in reputation and stature each year. More cyclists are visiting the region to experience B2B - one of the few state’s fully-road closed events.
“The course winds its way through the central NSW countryside before finishing at the iconic Mount Panorama and is on a fully closed road, event timing and on route support,” he said.
More than 2,390 riders participated in the B2B last year. The top 25 per cent in each age group from the 110km event qualified for the UCI Grand Fondo which was held in Varese, Italy. 407 riders qualified to represent Australia in this year’s championships, with 95 B2B riders making the trip to Italy.
The Bathurst Cycling Classic will feature the following events:
· Hill Climb at Mount Panorama 16 March 2019
· Family Fun in the CBD 16 March 2019
· Criterium Racing at Kings Parade 16 March 2019
· B2B Sunday 17 March 2019 from 8.30am
