Make your vote count for Waste Ops 2018

Cessnock City and Maitland City Councils offered local Year 7 and 8 students the opportunity to enter the 2018 Waste Ops short film contest and it’s now up to the community to decide the winner!

The competition called for schools to enter their storyboards for a two minute short film encouraging people to reduce the amount of waste they generate.

Seven schools entered the competition, but Rutherford Technology High School and Kurri Kurri High School took out the finalist positions and were given the opportunity to have their storyboards professionally filmed.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the Waste Ops competition is a wonderful opportunity for our local students and is encouraging the community support the initiative by voting for their favourite film.

“This competition not only gets young people thinking about our environment, but it is a great way to engage students, spark their imagination and creativity and improve their persuasive writing skills.”

The two films will go live on the Waste Ops website at www.wasteops.com.au on Tuesday 6 November and the community is encouraged to go online and vote for their favourite. Voting will close on Tuesday 27 November 2018 and the winner will be announced shortly after.

This is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
