The community is invited to share their ideas and aspirations for a new Sport, Active Recreation and Healthy Living Plan for the Toowoomba Region.
Toowoomba Regional Council’s Environment and Community portfolio leader Councillor Joe Ramia said the plan would identify and deliver policies, places and programs to support sport, active recreation and healthy living within the region.
“The plan will set the region’s vision and outline goals and actions focused on sport, active recreation and healthy living from 2019 to 2026,” Cr Ramia said.
“It will help create healthier, more active communities by encouraging more people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to be active, eat well and live well.
“We are now seeking community input to guide the development of the plan.
“I urge everyone to have their say about the future of sport, active recreation and healthy living by completing our Activate Survey.
“In addition to the survey, workshops will be held with key stakeholder groups such as sports clubs, nature-based recreation organisations and walk and cycle groups in early 2019 to ensure the plan meets the varying needs of community members across the Toowoomba Region.”
Toowoomba Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Infrastructure Committee Cr Carol Taylor said the Activate Survey included a section focused on walking and cycling for transport.
“We want to hear how we can get more people walking and cycling to work, school, parks, shops and other destinations in our region,” Cr Taylor said.
“Everyone who completes a survey will go in the running to win some awesome prizes. First prize is a choice between a Trail Walk and Picnic Brunch Adventure Package to the value of $500, a family adventure day at Cooby Dam to the value of $500 or a half-year Milne Bay / Highfields Recreation Centre membership to the value of $500. Second prize is a Garmin Forerunner 35 watch to the value of $299. Third prize is a Fit and Active pack to the value of $200.”
The survey is available online via Council’s Your Say website and in hard copy from Customer Service Centres until Friday 21 December 2018.
