Orbost drainage works start Wednesday 07 November

Construction on much-needed new kerb and drainage along Forest Road, Orbost is scheduled to start today (Wednesday, November 7).

An old section of existing kerb and channel along Forest Road (between Tarra and McLeod streets) has been identified for replacement by East Gippsland Shire Council and included in the 2018-19 $41 million capital works budget.

Council’s Acting Director Operations Fiona Weigall said the existing kerb and channel is badly degraded with intermittent lengths holding water.

“Additionally, existing piped drainage from the north discharges directly into the channel thereby impacting the existing road pavement,” Ms Weigall said.

“The new kerb and channel proposed will improve drainage along this section of Forest Road and improve access to the abutting properties, as well as preventing water intrusion into the existing road pavement.”

Council’s contractor East Gippsland Road Maintenance has advised adjacent property owners of the impending works.

Completion prior to Christmas is anticipated.

Council received $150,000 in funding from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery program for this project.
