Sunday marks one hundred years since the guns fell silent on the Western Front.
To commemorate the service of the 416,809 Australians enlisted in World War I and the centenary of the Armistice that ended the war, this year’s Remembrance Day service will be held by the Ballarat Arch of Victory.
Thousands of Ballarat families are expected to attend this years’ service which will commence at 10am.
The City of Ballarat, Arch of Victory/Avenue of Honour Committee, Ballarat RSL and Sebastopol RSL have worked together to create a respectful event with a connection to the local community.
As part of the commemorative service, Arch of Victory/Avenue of Honour Committee President Bruce Price OAM will tell the story of Ballarat Arch of Victory and Avenue of Honour before a number of local school students take to the microphone to read war poems and narratives.
To prepare for the service, a number of road closures will be put in place on Sunday 11 November between 7am and 3pm for the safety of attendees.
The following road closures will be implemented from 7am, with attendees advised to allow 10 minutes to park at Victoria Park and walk to Arch of Victory for the service.
Sturt Street in both directions will be closed from Insignia Boulevard through to Vale Street Learmonth Road will be closed at Cuthberts RoadAccess from Insignia Boulevard onto Sturt Street to travel west, as well as access from Vale Street onto Sturt Street to travel east, will be maintained during the closure.
All east and west-bound traffic moving through the closure area will be diverted via Arthur Street and Cuthberts Road. Alternatively, traffic could also use Ring Road. Full access to the Ballarat Golf Course will be also maintained during the closure period.
For those wanting to access the Ballarat CBD, please use the Midland Highway or Ring Road/Howitt Street where possible.
For all other road closures, please adhere to the detour signs or follow instruction from Traffic Management staff.

The Buninyong RSL will also host a Remembrance Day commemorative service at 10.45am in the Buninyong RSL Memorial Park.
