Ideas 2170: A new public forum for big ideas in Liverpool

Liverpool City Council and Western Sydney University have joined forces to invite thought leaders and visionaries to share their ideas and opinions on contemporary issues that affect South Western Sydney today.
In a first for the city, Ideas 2170 is a series of free public discussions that will take place at the University’s new Liverpool City Campus.
The first Ideas 2170 talk “South West Sydney: Education’s Field of Dreams” will be held on Thursday 15 November 2018.
As the keynote speaker, Mark Scott AO, Secretary of NSW Department of Education, will be discussing the challenges and opportunities in education in South West Sydney.
He will then join a panel of education professionals – Professor Wayne Sawyer, Lily Mularczyk OAM and Cindy Valdez-Adams – to discuss the issues that have affected access to education in South West Sydney historically and today.
Professor Brian Stout, the Provost of the Liverpool City Campus and Deputy Dean of the University’s School of Social Sciences and Psychology, will host the event and will facilitate questions from the audience to the panel.
“Western Sydney University is proud to partner with Liverpool City Council on Ideas 2170 – which will bring the local community together with experts and industry, and provide an opportunity for engaged discussion and information exchange on issues that affect the local region,” he said.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the number of local students enrolled in tertiary education has risen by 42 per cent in the last five years.
“Historically, educational outcomes in South West Sydney have trailed behind other parts of Sydney. There is a great opportunity to improve those outcomes and connect students with the expanding opportunities taking shape in the region,” Mayor Waller said.
“Ideas are at the heart of great cities so it is fitting that Liverpool has a new forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the city and its residents.”
