Vintage Art Prize returns

A much-loved Barossa Vintage Festival tradition returns in 2019 with the relaunch of the Vintage Festival Art Prize.

Barossa Regional Gallery in conjunction with The Barossa Council have spearheaded the initiative to provide greater exposure for established and emerging artists, and in the future hope to make it an acquisition art prize that builds the Vintage Festival Art Collection.

The Prize will be open to all artists, with a first prize and viewer’s choice awarded for the best interpretation of the theme, “Petrichor” - the smell of rain falling onto hot, dry ground.

Gallery Project Officer Dayna Brassil said petrichor is an evocative smell that invokes powerful emotional responses, memories and heightened senses.

“Entries will be judged by an independent panel with prizes awarded to the artworks that best reflect and interpret the theme,” said Dayna.

“We’re really excited about the potential for new works in a variety of mediums and the opportunity to build our significant Vintage Festival Collection.

“We know the Barossa is a creative community, and the Vintage Art Prize is an exciting opportunity to create broader exposure for our artists and give them another platform to showcase their talent.”

Entries close 8 February 2019 with an exhibition opening to be held on 21 April. The thematic statement and application form is available at www.barossagallery.com
