City of Boroondara 8 Nov 2018

Maling Ward Councillor Jane Addis has been elected Mayor of Boroondara for the 2018-19 Council year at a Special Council meeting on Wednesday 7 November.

In her speech, Cr Addis thanked her colleagues for their confidence. “I am deeply honoured to be given the opportunity to lead such a dedicated and talented group of councillors. Each councillor brings different skills, experience and passions to Council. Together we are committed to make a positive impact on the lives of the Boroondara community.”

Cr Addis also acknowledged the work of the outgoing Mayor, Cr Jim Parke. “In his second term as Mayor he has been a committed and influential supporter of the work of Council. There is no doubt Cr Parke will continue to be a staunch advocate for key issues like minimising the impact of the North-East Link on our community facilities.”

Cr Addis said over the next year one of her goals is to continue to deliver the Boroondara Community Plan so Boroondara remains a vibrant, accessible and attractive place to live.

“Council has an important role in contributing to the wellbeing of the community and assisting residents to form stronger connections with each other. I look forward to working with my Councillor colleagues, Council staff and the community to shape and deliver projects to enrich our community life.”

“As a passionate advocate for heritage protection, I am proud of Council’s proactive work in identifying and protecting heritage properties and precincts through the Municipal Wide Heritage Gap Study. It is exciting to see some of the heritage gap studies and amendments are nearing completion. We will work with the Victorian Government to ensure our distinctive neighbourhood characters and charms are protected for generations to come.”

Cr Addis has lived in the City of Boroondara for more than 40 years and was elected to Council in 2012. She replaced outgoing two-term mayor, Cr Jim Parke.
