Heatherton Park maintenance works to commence in November

Improvement works will soon commence at Heatherton Park to ensure the beautiful public parkland can continued to be enjoyed by the community for years to come.

Early works on the major project will commence in mid-November to ensure the former landfill site is properly managed.

Kingston Mayor Steve Staikos said remediation works were required to strengthen the barrier of soil between the former landfill and the surface.

"The works are needed to make sure the parkland remains safe and meets Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) standards for former landfill sites," Cr Staikos.

The works will be staged in different sections of the park over a number of months, to ensure that some parts of the park remain open to the public at all times.

"The works will ensure the park keeps serving the community for years to come, but there will be some disruption to the park while the works are conducted," Cr Staikos said.

"Visitors to the park will notice some areas fenced off, however we are making sure that some parts of the park remain open at all times."

These works will require deliveries of soil by large trucks and every effort will be made to ensure trucks minimise the use of residential streets.

It is anticipated that the works will be completed towards the middle of next year.
