Volunteers needed for airport emergency exercise

Posted on November 8, 2018

Central Highlands Regional Council is looking for volunteers to participate in an emergency simulation exercise at the Emerald Airport on Saturday 1 December 2018.

The exercise simulates an emergency landing and is important training for first responders for aviation emergencies.

Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said volunteers need to be in good health and commit to staying for the entire exercise.

‘We’re looking for 40 volunteers to act as injured and distressed looking passengers who, in the scenario, have experienced a difficult landing,’ he said.

‘The exercise includes fire-fighting, triage, injury stabilisation and victim transport. Airline representatives will be providing for the care of the “uninjured”.

‘Volunteers may see themselves with make-up to simulate injuries, so it’s essential to wear suitable clothing that can be damaged and footwear.

‘These kinds of simulation exercises are crucial for emergency services, supporting organisations, airport and airline staff.

‘Your participation will ensure that our first responders are well-prepared to save lives in a real-life emergency.’

Children under 16 are not able to participate.

People that would like to participate in the field exercise need to pre-register here. Registrations close on 23 November 2018.
