Woodend squash courts to be demolished

Published on 07 November 2018

The disused Woodend squash courts building will be demolished this month and the site restored to public open space.

The area will be cordoned off while the demolition works are carried out. While the works are expected to take about a week, contractors will remain on site for another two weeks to sort materials for recycling and cartage to EPA-registered landfills.

Noise, dust and disruption for residents and visitors to the area will be kept to a minimum during the works. There will however be some additional traffic in the Margery Crescent/Forest Road area during the demolition works.

The old squash courts building was purchased by Council for the purpose of storing records and other equipment. As records are now mainly stored digitally, the building is no longer required.

As the building would require significant investment to turn it into a public building, Council has decided it should be removed and the area restored to open space for use by residents and community groups.

The program for demolition works has been designed so that there is minimal disruption to, or impact on, activities in the area such as the weekend farmers or village markets.
