We invite Murray–Darling Basin communities to have their say on the best ways to invest in water efficiency projects through four new public meetings scheduled for Balranald at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club on 15 November 2018.
The consultation period for this important work has now been extended to Friday 23 November 2018.
Murray–Darling Basin governments are seeking advice on how they can best invest in water efficiency projects. In particular, governments are seeking community and industry views on potential additional assessment criteria for on-farm efficiency measure projects, or other projects funded by the Murray–Darling Basin Water Infrastructure Program, to ensure that all projects have neutral or positive socio-economic outcomes.
Research shows that on-farm projects can have positive socio-economic outcomes but also present some risks. Additional assessment criteria and Basin government actions may help to manage these risks. On-farm water recovery projects are not currently eligible in New South Wales and Victoria because some research indicates that further water recovery through on-farm projects may not always achieve the neutral or positive outcomes required by the Basin Plan and expected by communities.
Further information on these meetings is available here. Please register to attend a meeting by emailing your name and preferred location to [email protected].
