The City of Swan is upgrading Stewartby Park in Viveash this month to include brand new BMX tracks and other amenities for users.
The upgrade to the park, locally known as Viveash Jumps, includes a new gazebo, water fountain, an upgraded BMX track, logs around the park perimeter and new signage.
City of Swan Deputy Mayor Kevin Bailey said Council voted to upgrade the park in August following consultation with local residents.
“A local community group requested Stewartby Park be improved with the addition of a gazebo, water fountain and upgraded BMX jumps similar to those previously located at the park,” he said.
“The jumps had existed for a long period of time and were of particular sentimental value to the local users.
“Consultation with the residents surrounding the park was undertaken in July 2018, and a majority of respondents were in favour of the proposed upgrades.
“We thank the community for their interest and engagement in this process, and we look forward to seeing community members enjoy the upgraded space once it has been completed.”
Midland/Guildford Ward Councillor Mark Elliott said works have now commenced and should be completed in approximately six weeks.
“Following the completion of works, we will undertake a community planting event when weather conditions are favourable.”
