The Commemoration of the Centenary of Armistice 2018 plaque has been installed at Wetherill Park Reserve and unveiled during a short ceremony on 8 November, in time for Remembrance Day on 11 November.
It marks the historic milestone and honours the service and sacrifice of our original ANZACs.
From a population of fewer than five million, 416,809 Australian men enlisted to fight in WWI. More than 60,000 Australian service personnel were killed and 156,000 wounded, gassed, or taken prisoner.
“WWI is synonymous with the proud history of ANZAC and holds special meaning in the hearts of all Australians,” Mayor Carbone said.
“The heroism, service and sacrifice of our original ANZACs will never be forgotten.
“We remember them and all our Australian service personnel who have defended our country’s values and freedoms in conflicts and peace operations throughout a century of service.”
The plaque was installed with funding from the Commonwealth Government’s Armistice Centenary Grants Program.
