This year Remembrance Day marks 100 years since the end of World War I.
On this day 100 years ago, German leaders signed the Armistice with the Allies to conclude four years of continuous warfare on the Western Front.
Approximately 62,000 Australians died fighting for our freedom in World War I.
“Honour their Spirit” is the official motto of the Australian War Memorial for this year’s significant anniversary of the end of World War I on 11 November 1918.
On Sunday, 11 November, one minute silence will be observed at 11am to honour those who sacrificed their lives in World War I, and poppies will be worn as a sign of respect.
Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said 2018 is a special year for the anniversary of the Armistice that ended World War I.
“The Strathbogie Shire consists of many proud communities who embrace our military history in honouring the many soldiers who fought in WWI,” Cr McClaren said.
“The Centenary of Armistice 2018 will be a special day commemorated by four services throughout the shire.”
Avenel, Euroa, Nagambie and Violet Town will hold ceremonies on Sunday 11th November at the following locations:
