Ballarat (City) 12 Nov 2018

With more Ballarat residents opting for a healthier lifestyle, the City of Ballarat is looking to ensure it’s in the best position to meet the community’s growing sport and recreation needs.

To best guide the City of Ballarat over the next decade, the Active Ballarat Strategy is being developed.

The Active Ballarat Strategy will:

Establish strategic directions for the planning, provision, development and management of a diverse range of sport and recreation facilities, services and infrastructure  Provide recommendations and strategic outcomes that address short-term (1-2 years), medium-term (3-4 years) and future (5-10 years) community needs Identify critical policy direction for City of Ballarat recreation processes and procedures.

To ensure a comprehensive vision is developed, community members are being invited to share their ideas and thoughts over the next four weeks.

An online survey has been released today, seeking input from community members, sporting groups and organisations about their perceptions of current sport and recreation facilities and infrastructure, as well as their thoughts towards the future direction of the City of Ballarat’s sport and recreation management.

A community forum will also be held in early December with local sport clubs, associations and community groups to ensure key stakeholders are given the opportunity to have their say.

The Active Ballarat Strategy will replace the 2014 Recreation Strategy, and align with the Active Women and Girls’ Strategy, Cycling Action Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. It will also align with the strategic framework developed by the state government – Active Victoria Strategy.

This strategy will be developed with an equal focus on both structured traditional and non-traditional sports, as well as non-organised active recreation.

To have your say head to mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au and fill out the online survey.

The survey will be open until Monday 10 December 2018.
