Cann River District community survey Monday 12 November

East Gippsland Shire Council is calling all community members in the Cann River district to participate in a community survey to inform the creation of the first Cann River District Plan 2019-24.

Council staff are working in partnership with communities of Cann River, Noorinbee, Noorinbee North, Tonghi Creek, Buldah, Chandlers Creek, Club Terrace, Combienbar, Tamboon, Tamboon South, Wigan River and surrounds and key agencies to create the district level community plan.

Council’s Director Community Strategy Kate Nelson said a district community plan is about communities shaping a plan for their district – reflecting how it is now, what are the changes, challenges and opportunities occurring in each district and what their district could look like in the future.

“It is a different way for community, Council and other key agencies to work together to plan and make decisions as a district,” Ms Nelson said.

Council has been working with the Cann River district to understand how the communities work, live, play and connect. Two workshops were held in Cann River in late October to continue to develop the community profile and as an opportunity for community to have input into the questions that need to be included in the community survey.

“The information gathered through this survey will be collated along with the asset mapping information from the first workshop in August,” Ms Nelson said.

“The survey gives community members the opportunity to tell us about their experience of living in their district and community, what is important to them and what they want for the future of your district and community.  The survey ensures residents who can’t participate in the upcoming workshops in December an opportunity to have input into the planning process and to have their voice heard.”

Residents can complete the survey online at http://bit.ly/CannSurvey or can obtain a paper copy by contacting Council’s community planning team on (03) 5153 9500 or online via the Your Say East Gippsland website. Copies are also available from the Cann River Community Centre and the Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre.

Residents are asked to complete the survey by November 28.

The One Place, One Plan project is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream and is being trialed in Cann River District, Mountain Rivers (Errinundra to Snowy) District and Twin Rivers District.

Representatives from Cann Valley Bush Nursing Centre, the Country Fire Authority, Cann River Community Centre and Cann River P-12 School, along with community members, attended the community information workshops at Cann River in October.
