Miners Rest residents and the City of Ballarat have welcomed a promise from the State Opposition that it will spend $5.46 million on new sporting and recreation facilities for the township should it be elected to government on 24 November.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr Samantha McIntosh says a new sporting hub to include two new ovals, community meeting spaces, female friendly and universal access change rooms, shared netball and tennis courts, cricket training nets and a playground has been identified by residents as a priority project.

"City of Ballarat has worked closely with the people of Miners Rest for the past 12 months to develop The Miners Rest Plan:Our Township Towards 2040 - they've told us that infrastructure of this this type is extremely important to them. This is a rapidly growing area, the proposed facilities will be used by people of all ages, bringing significant health and social benefits.
"Miners Rest is one of the fastest growing areas in Ballarat -these are priority projects if the township is to continue to prosper and offer a great quality of life to residents as it grows.
"I hope that this project will also secure funding from the State Government".
