With the opportunity to showcase regional art practices and artists as well as host some of the world’s most esteemed artistic profiles, Tamworth Regional Council is thrilled be the hosting region for the 2019 Artstate Conference.

Artstate is a four-year project run by Regional Arts NSW, to help shine a light on excellence in regional arts practice and to explore the exciting possibilities for arts and cultural development across the state.

Driven by the strong focus of aboriginal arts practices and leaders, Artstate pays tribute to the role that traditional stories, songs, dances and art, from each tribe, play in shaping cultural identity and acts as a continuation of these traditions.

Regional Arts NSW CEO Elizabeth Rogers said, “Regional Arts NSW is delighted to welcome Tamworth Regional Council as our local government partner and Arts North West as our co-presenter for Artstate 2019.”

The project kicked off in 2017 in NSW’s far north-eastern pocket of Lismore, then made its way to the state’s Central West community of Bathurst in 2018.  Now, heading to the New England region for the 2019 leg of its journey, it’s Tamworth’s turn to showcase local traditions and talents, with the conference also including an artistic program that will draw from the arts across the entire North West region.

Minister for Arts, the Hon. Don Harwin MLC said, “Tamworth is an authentic Australian heartland beating with rhythm and talent. With its deep roots in music and live performance, it was only a matter of time before it was sighted as the perfect host for Artstate.

Councillor Glen Inglis, Chair of the Tamworth Regional Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee (TRACAC) said: “We are delighted to welcome the highly regarded Artstate Conference to Tamworth next year and we look forward to showcasing the heritage, culture and art practice of the North West Region, here in Tamworth,” he said.

The 2019 Artstate Conference will be held in Tamworth from Thursday 31st October to Sunday 3rd November 2019.
