Gladstone Regional Council Mayor Matt Burnett is calling on the community to help bring festive cheer to those in need this Christmas.
Councillor Burnett will tomorrow (Wednesday) launch the Mayor’s Giving Tree and the Kmart Wishing Tree appeals.
“I am proud to be a part of these initiatives,” Cr Burnett said.
“Christmas is an amazing time of the year, but for those families in need, it can sometimes be quite daunting.
“I encourage all members of the community to embrace the Christmas spirit and help make these families Christmas’ a little brighter.
“A small donation may mean more than you know.”
The Mayor’s Giving Tree is a combined initiative between Stockland Gladstone and the Salvation Army, which aims to support children, adults, seniors and families who are unable to afford gifts at Christmas and beyond.
The Kmart Wishing tree is in its 31st year and a long-standing tradition for many within the Gladstone Region. Together with The Salvation Army, the appeal has collected more than eight million gifts for Aussies nationwide.
Gifts can be donated up until 5:30pm Christmas Eve (24 December). The donated gifts will be distributed by The Salvation Army.
