East Gippsland Shire Council is calling all community members in the districts of Mountain Rivers (Errinundra to Snowy), Cann River and Twin Rivers to participate in a community survey.
The purpose of the survey is to help build a picture of the whole community in each district and inform the development of each of the district community plans.
Council staff are working in partnership with communities and key agencies to create five-year, district level community plans.
Council’s Director Community Strategy Kate Nelson said a district community plan is about communities shaping a plan for their district reflecting how it is now, what are the changes, challenges and opportunities occurring in each district and what their district could look like in the future.
“It is a different way for community, council and other key agencies to work together to plan and make decisions as a district,” Ms Nelson said.
“Council has been working with the three districts to understand how the communities work, live, play and connect.
“The first phase involved an asset mapping workshop that captured the environmental, built, cultural, social, human and economic assets of the districts.
“A series of community information workshops were held with community and agencies in late October to continue to develop the community profile, and to have input into the questions that need to be included in the community survey.”
The next step is to carry out a district-wide community survey to help build an understanding of who makes up the community.
“The survey gives community members the opportunity to tell us about their experience of living in their district and community, what is important to them and what they want for the district and community in the future,” Ms Nelson said.
“The survey ensures residents who can’t participate in the upcoming workshops in December an opportunity to have their voice heard.”
Residents of the three districts can complete the survey online at or can obtain a paper copy by contacting Council’s community planning team on (03) 5153 9500 or online via the Your Say East Gippsland website.
Residents are asked to complete the survey by November 28.
