Ballarat (City) 15 Nov 2018

The City of Ballarat, with significant contribution from the community, is a step closer to developing a vision for a sustainable future for Ballarat East.

In 2015, the City of Ballarat started a conversation with the community about how to manage change and plan for a sustainable future in Ballarat East.

The result was the Ballarat East Local Area Plan, also known as Imagine Ballarat East, which is being delivered as an Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) pilot project.

So far community members have shared with us the many things they value and want to retain about Ballarat East, as well as what they imagine for its future.

This has informed the Draft Ballarat East Local Area Plan.

This morning the Draft Ballarat East Local Area Plan was released for further feedback.

Extensive engagement and consultation with the community and stakeholders is being undertaken to understand the diversity of ideas and develop a community-led vision for Ballarat East.

This vision will capitalise on opportunities to support growth and enhance liveability in Ballarat’s east while retaining the key elements that are highly valued by the community:

Conserve and enhance our rich natural environment, ecological diversity, skyline views, green streetscapes and open spaces  Conserve and enhance our distinct neighbourhood character and tell our stories more to celebrate the connections to our past  Increase our housing diversity and create liveable neighbourhoods where people of all ages and abilities feel welcome and safe  Create opportunities for all residents to stay connected and enjoy a healthy lifestyle  Support change that maximises what is special about the East and stimulates a prosperous future for all

An online survey is now available at mysay.ballarat.com.au

Community members can also contribute to the survey in person at The Phoenix, 25 Armstrong Street South or by mail addressed to City of Ballarat Strategic Planning – Imagine Ballarat East PO Box 655 Ballarat, Victoria, Australia 3350

Submission will close 5pm, Monday 4 February.

Community members also have an opportunity to meet with the City of Ballarat’s Strategic Planning team to discuss the Draft Ballarat East Local Area Plan and next steps at a drop-in session between 2-6.30pm on Tuesday 27 November at the Eureka Centre.

Ballarat East residents will also soon begin receiving a copy of myNeighbourhood, highlighting this project and the number of others currently underway in the area.

A copy of this will also be available to read online at mysay.ballarat.vic.gov.au
