Campaspe Shire Council invites the community to join together for a special White Ribbon morning tea on Echuca Wharf, Friday, 23 November at 10.30am.
Mayor Cr Adrian Weston said our theme for this year’s event is ‘Real Men Bake Cakes’ and will see 22 high profile men in the community bringing their baked cakes to the morning tea for judging.
“These men are leading the way in taking a stand, saying ‘NO’ to violence against women competing against each other in a symbolic bake off,” Cr Weston said.
Experienced bakers from the Country Woman’s Association will form the judging panel as the well-known public figures compete for bragging rights.
“Council recognises that all forms of violence are unacceptable and there are many worthy campaigns that raise awareness or provide support. Sadly, the majority of domestic violence victims in Australia are women, and this is most likely to be perpetrated by a man,” the Mayor said.
“Campaspe Shire has linked up with White Ribbon focusing on raising awareness and became a White Ribbon Accredited Workplace in 2015. White Ribbon engages men to highlight the positive role men can play to stop violence against women.”
“The White Ribbon event seeks to highlight just how real the issue of violence against women is, with one in three women having experienced physical and/or sexual violence from someone they know.”
White Ribbon Australia is a part of a global movement of men and boys working to end men’s violence against women. It aims to create an Australian society where all women can live in safety, free from violence and abuse.
“We invite you all to attend this special event which raises awareness of violence against women,” Cr Weston said.
