Council approves new health care precinct for Bell

The township of Bell has been given a boost to its region with the approval of a new health care precinct by Western Downs Regional Council.

Council approved the proposal this week for a pharmacy with an adjoining health care centre.

Council Spokesperson for Planning and Environment Councillor Andrew Smith said this approval was big news to the residents of Bell.

“Council is committed to the liveability of our region and this announcement is a sign of confidence in the Bell township,” he said.

“This will be a great asset for the Bell community as residents will no longer have to drive out of town for their pharmaceutical needs, saving time and money.

“We want all of our smaller towns to thrive and this is about ensuring the future of Bell.”

The site of the approved facility will be on the corner of Ensor Street and Wallace Street.

There will be seven on-site carparks as well as a single Person with Disability (PWD) park which will be accessible from Wallace Street.

Bell Bunya Community Centre volunteer Mick Cosgrove said this announcement was a positive step for Bell’s future.

“Facilities like this will improve the lifestyle of our community and make Bell more attractive for people to come and live,” he said.

“The convenience will especially benefit our older community who will no longer have to drive for an hour to get medical support.

“When we can pick up medication and supplies locally it means we can do more business in Bell.”
