MEDIA RELEASE 16 November 2018

The bells of the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon will temporarily stop chiming as upgrades are conducted from 26 - 27 November.

The upgrades include replacement of the bells and installation of an electronic playing system.

Representative from the Carillon Trust, Richard Steele, said experts from Taylor's Bell Foundry in England were currently in Bathurst to assist with the upgrades.

"The upgrades involve removal, installation and commissioning of twelve new bells and an additional 12 top octave bells,” he said.

Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said the works are necessary to conserve and improve our city's centrepiece.

"The Carillon was constructed in 1933 as a memorial to those from Bathurst and district who served in World War One," he said

A crane will be in Kings Parade for the duration of works and the area surrounding the Carillon will be cordoned off for public safety.
