Campbelltown Council trainees Lily Whitfield and Lachlan Cato were recognised for their outstanding efforts at the recent My Gateway trainee awards.

Ms Whitfield, 18, who works with Council’s Community Life team, won the Trainee of the Year award for Certificate III in Business Administration.

She said her time at Council had been “an amazing opportunity. One I’m so grateful for.”.

“I’m so grateful to have had an opportunity to work in Council, and I never thought in a million years that I’d have had the opportunity to learn so much.”

Mr Cato, 19, who works in Council’s IT department, was a finalist in the Certificate IV in Business Administration category.

He said he was proud to have been named as a finalist in the awards.

“I’ve always wanted to work in IT and cyber security has always been a passion of mine, so I hope one day to work with the Australian Federal Police or Australian Signals Directorate.”

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said both trainees were outstanding young people who made a significant contribution to their teams.

“I’m very proud of Lily and Lachlan, as are all the councillors and members of Council’s executive management team,” he said.

“Both of these young people live and went to school locally.”

“They’re a wonderful example of the incredibly talented and hard-working young people that our city has produced.

“Lily was an integral part of the success of the recent Festival of Fisher’s Ghost.

“She handled herself during a very busy, major public event with thorough professionalism and maturity.”

“Lachlan has become a familiar sight throughout Council’s civic centre as a talented and respected member of the IT team.

“His technical skill and professional manner have made him a greatly valued member of staff.”
