Santa arrives for the launch of the City of Wollongong Annual Christmas Giving Tree appeal.

As you go about making your lists and checking them twice, why not share the Christmas joy and buy a present for a child or youth that might go without?

On Friday 16 November we’re launching the City of Wollongong’s annual Giving Tree Appeal at the Christmas tree in the Crown Street Mall. This event will be followed by the annual Bikers Toy Run on Saturday 1 December.

“The year has flown by and we’re already seeing the Christmas decorations spring up around the City,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said. “It’s easy to forget with all the holiday joy that there are some members of our community who are doing it tough.

“I would like to encourage everyone who can to donate an unwrapped gift or gift card to the Giving Tree Appeal to make sure that every child can experience the magic of Christmas.”

Unwrapped gifts and gift cards can be left at the following locations until Monday 17 December:

Council’s Customer Service area and Council libraries Figtree Grove and Warrawong Plaza Customer Service Desks iHub Visitors Information Centre Novotel Northbeach Port Kembla Golf Club The Central, UOW Innovation Campus WAVE FM Warrawong Wests Illawarra Wollongong Central Customer Service Centre Desk (Level 1 Crown) and Gift Hut (upper Crown St Mall)

“This year the City of Wollongong’s Giving Tree Appeal will work with three Wollongong agencies – St Vincent de Paul Society, Anglicare and SCARF – to help distribute these gifts,” Cr Bradbery said.

“By dropping off a gift you are sending the message that our community cares about those in need.

“Another thing to look out for is the annual Bikers Toy Run on Saturday 1 December as hundreds of motorbikes make their way to the Christmas tree to drop off a gift. It’s an impressive site to see these motorbikes thundering across the City to spread Christmas cheer and deliver gifts to brighten the festive season of some of our younger community members.”
