Chinchilla students’ artwork presented to Council

The hard work of talented artists from Chinchilla State High School is now proudly on display by Western Downs Regional Council. 

Students have been working on Indigenous artworks as part of a program with drilling company Easternwell.

The community and social development initiative was launched by Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh earlier in the year.

Since then, students have completed several artworks including paintings, the design of work helmets and painting one of Easternwell’s company cars.

At a presentation last week Councillor McVeigh said the artwork is now proudly being displayed in the Council building.

“This painting, which has been presented to Council, is simply magnificent, full of colour and is a true work of art,” he said.

“We have some very talented people in our communities and as a Council we take great pride in celebrating their achievements.

“The art piece will be admired by everyone who sees it and I congratulate everyone involved.”

Easternwell General Manager Marco Waanders said it was a thrill to see Council supporting the initiative and accepting one of its art pieces.

“This program is all about engaging our young Indigenous people to express themselves and their culture through the arts,” he said.

“The art pieces which have been created in this program have been breath taking.

“I know the students are very happy the Council wanted a copy of their art works.”
