Work has now started on the new Kenny Park change room facilities, with site preparations and earthworks now well under way.
The long-awaited project will not only see the replacement of the existing change rooms, which were essentially destroyed by the November 2016 storms, but the addition of several new features.
They include:
dedicated change rooms/facilities for both home and visiting netball sides dedicated umpires’ rooms trainers’ facilities for both home and visiting sides public toilets, including an all-access public toilet and a disabled parking spotCouncillor for Recreation and Sport Glenn Milne said the new, modern and much larger change room complex was very much a collaborative effort.
“The 2016 storms obviously had a devastating impact on the Merbein community, and the damage to the Kenny Park change rooms were certainly a massive loss to the sporting community,” Cr Milne said.
“Getting to this point, where we now see construction started on this project, has really been a team effort.
“We’ve worked closely with the Merbein Football Netball Club, Sunraysia Football Netball League, Merbein South Cricket Club, and the broader Merbein community to get to this point.
“We’ve also received significant support from the Victorian Government, which injected $500,000 into the project through its 2018-2019 Female Friendly Facilities Fund.
“The AFL has also contributed $75,000.
“The end result, which we’ll see in several months’ time, will certainly be worth it and will be among the most modern and fully featured in the region.”
Once earthworks have been completed, preparations for the slab will begin.
Plans for the new change rooms are available to view on Council’s website at www.mildura.vic.gov.au/Major-Projects. Signage has also been erected at Kenny Park, Chaffey Park and the Merbein Library, showing the layout and what the completed facility will look like.
