Bairnsdale Airport’s fuel tanks were recently inspected and decommissioned for two days to be vented and cleaned as part of the facility’s regular maintenance program.
As a part of the inspection, a recommendation was put forward to install stainless collector tanks and low point drain valves on the two existing fuel tanks to make sample testing safer and easier in line with industry standards.
The new collector tank system also reduces waste, with the extracted fuel now able to be circulated back into the tank.
This work was undertaken by the fuel provider Aero Refuellers.
The airport, owned by East Gippsland Shire Council, receives approximately 3,000 aircraft movements a year with aircraft movements progressively increasing each year.
The airport offers both Avgas and Jet A1 fuel.
Bairnsdale Airport is one of three council-owned airports, along with Orbost Airport and Mallacoota Airport.
