Know a local legend?

Nominations are now open for the 2019 Australia Day Awards and Cessnock City Council is calling on the community to nominate locals who deserve to be recognised.  

 There are a number of award categories to choose from including Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event, Sport, Environment, Heritage, along with Achievement and Appreciation awards.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent urged residents to nominate people who deserve recognition for their contribution to the community.  

“This is a chance to acknowledge those in our community who give up their own time and dedicate themselves to making our community a better place. This gives us an opportunity to say thanks and celebrate their achievements.”  

“Last year we had some magnificent people take to the stage to accept their award and they have all continued to contribute to our community over the last twelve months.”  

In 2019 a new award has been announced and is inspired by women contributing service to the community. The Marie Callaghan Young Female Achiever Award acknowledges the barriers women face in seeking public office and being seen as “leaders”. The recipient will be a positive and inspirational role model to other young women, who shows leadership.  

Nominations must be submitted by Monday 10 December 2018. Nomination forms and selection criteria can be found on Council’s website at www.cessnock.nsw.gov.au/community/events-ceremonies/australiaday.  

The winners will be announced at a Civic Reception held on Australia Day. More details about the event will be released closer to the date.
