Night Patrol staff celebrate

It was a proud moment for Council’s Night Patrol staff when they graduated at the Tennant Creek campus of Charles Darwin University (CDU) last week.

Seventeen staff members have now gained accreditation in the Certificate III in Community Night Patrol with nine attending the ceremony last Thursday to receive their certificates.

Elton Dobbs, Justine Duggie, Craigwyn Glenn, Chrystaline Peterson, Glenys Peterson, Marcia Peterson, Calvert Rankine, Adalida Beasley and Rowena Kelly received their graduation certificate from Lyle Mellors, Director Central Australia and Senior Vocational Education and Training (VET) Advisor, in front of family, friends and colleagues.

The other students – Bonita Farrall, Cheryl Ladd, Josiah Nuggett, Joanne Rankine, Vivianne Thompson, Ethan Wilson, Selina Turner and Dwyane Belia – will receive their certificates in the post.

Mayor Steve Edgington, who attended the ceremony at CDU followed by a graduation dinner at the Memo, said completing the Certificate III in Community Night Patrol was “a significant achievement for the staff on the ground level”.

“They have all done very well and learnt many new skills which will make them more effective as Night Patrollers in their communities,” said Mayor Edgington. “Here, at Council, we are very proud.

“A lot of effort went into assisting the students, too, with long-term support provided by Night Patrol Managers, Merridie Satour, Katie Young and George Peckham, as well as input from the Core Skills Program.”

With funding provided by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Northern Territory Government, CDU’s Jodie Carr was the VET course lecturer with support provided by Central Desert Training under its Core Skills Program.
