Job seekers from across the Region can improve their digital literacy and job readiness from next week at the Excelsior Library.
The Library will be offering the community the Tech Savvy - Job Ready program from November 20. The free program is designed to improve employment opportunities by assisting Job Seekers learn basic computer skills, interview skills and resume creation.
“Understanding this fast-paced world of technology can be daunting and overwhelming for some Job Seekers.” said Cr Graham Lohmann.
“This is a fantastic program to help Job Seekers update their skills and gain an understanding of the available digital resources. The program is designed to enable community members to be more successful in the job market.”
Classes will be run on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm and Thursdays from 10am to 12pm. Participants will learn the fundamentals of applying for employment through developing the following skills:
Computer basics (internet tools, email account creation) Contact potential employers through email Using Microsoft programs including Word, Excel and Publisher (spell check, grammar check, formatting) How to create a relevant resume, write a cover letter and addressing selection criteria Using a printer and photocopier to print and scan documentsParticipates who need additional assistance will be able to book one-on-one time with a library staff member at a rostered timeslot.
The Job Ready Program was funded by the Queensland Government through the State Library Queensland’s Tech Savvy Regional Queensland grant.
