This week the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) launched its “Better Councils Better Communities” campaign.

The campaign is designed to promote the good work of local councils and to highlight the range of work we do.

Council is more than water, roads, rubbish and rates. Our role includes providing strategic direction for our region. To promote our region to the world and develop our local economy.

We provide public recreation facilities and town planning. Manage invasive weeds and animals. We are responsible for making decisions on behalf of our region and advocate State and Federal Governments on behalf of our communities.

We are here to serve our residents for the betterment of our region. To do this we need the community’s help. We don’t always know when something goes wrong and needs attention.

To let us know there’s a problem, don’t rely on a post on a community Facebook page. You need to contact Council directly. You can fill in a Customer Request online or phone Council and let us know.

A Customer Request is a simple one-page form that allows us to get all the details about the problem and your details, so we can contact you if need be. The form can be used for all kinds of issues including problems with animals, overgrown lots, maintenance issues, footpaths, water supply and public facilities.

There’s also the Snap Send Solve app for issues such as litter, waste, parking, street cleaning and facilities. More information available here

We are committed to doing our best to serve our communities, not only for us today, but for generations to come.

This is our region, our future.
