Cardinia Shire Council has adopted new rates in the dollar to realign its total rate revenue to meet the Victorian Government’s 2.25 per cent rate cap.
The Essential Services Commission advised that Council was at risk of an “immaterial non-compliance” with the Victorian Government’s rate cap of 2.25% - potentially exceeding the rate cap by a small amount of 0.08 per cent.
Due to slower than expected property development across the municipality, the total number and value of all rateable properties ahead of the final report from the Valuer General was over-calculated.
The average over-calculation was $1.22 per rateable assessment, or a total of $52,765 across all rateable properties.
Ratepayers paying in instalments will have the rate adjustment (decrease) applied to the third instalment notice, issued in February 2019.
Ratepayers who have already paid 2018-19 rates in full will be credited on the 2019-20 rates notice. If the additional amount paid exceeds $35, customers will be provided with the option of a credit or a refund.
FlexiPay users will get an email or SMS to advise that their scheduled payment will be automatically adjusted to reflect the new (reduced) amount.
