As part of the planned tram track renewals, Public Transport Victoria (PTV) and Yarra Trams will be closing parts of Hawthorn Road, Brighton East from Friday 7 December to Monday 17 December 2018.
The works, from Nepean Highway to Alexander Street, will help to make the tram network safer, result in a smoother and quieter ride for tram passengers and improve the driving surface for vehicles using Hawthorn Road.
The upgrade includes breaking out of asphalt along the tram and road reserve, replacement of track sleepers and laying new track.
The work zone will be fenced off for safety, however footpaths will be available for use by pedestrians to access local businesses and residences within the Brighton East Village.
Yarra Trams will inform residents and business owners about local vehicle access arrangements closer to the commencement of major works.
TimingLocalised lane closures in Hawthorn Road will commence Monday 19 November to Friday 7 December 2018. During this period Hawthorn Road will remain open to traffic at all times.
From Friday 7 December to Monday 17 December 2018, there will no vehicle access to Hawthorn Road from Nepean Highway to Alexander Street, for 24 hours a day.
Public transportDuring the works, route 64 trams will be affected. Buses will replace trams between Stop 62 Gardenvale Rd and East Brighton. Bus Route 626 will be diverted during the track upgrades.
